No Kidding – There’s a Bibleville RV-Park in the Texas River Grande Vally (RGV)
What is that?
Bibleville is a 40-acre, non-denominational Bible conference center in Alamo, Texas where “Winter Texans” (also known as “Winter Volunteers”) share their faith and participate in various activities during the winter months. Although it has mobile home and RV hookups, it is not primarily a mobile home park. Its focus is on ministry to Winter Texans and local, largely Hispanic citizens.
Bibleville can accommodate more than 500 seniors with its 100 hookup spaces and 180 mobile home rental lots. It has an 800-seat auditorium for regular church services, Sunday schools, Bible studies, prayer groups, Bible and religious conferences, sacred concerts and jams, including its own Glory Band, religious entertainment, crafts, dinners and various meetings for special projects. .
Yet in 1993 Bibleville merged with the Rio Grande Bible Institute in nearby Edinburgh, Texas. The latter is a four-year, non-denominational Bible college for training Latin American missionaries, which includes the border regions between Mexico and the United States. It was founded in 1946 by a Danish evangelist, MC Ehlert. At first, this college taught in both English and Spanish. But in 1955 he only went to Spanish. It offers a year-long intensive Spanish course for non-speaking students who will serve in Spanish-speaking countries. Thus, Bibleville encompasses both Latin American ministries and theirs to Winter Texans and local citizens.
Can anyone stay there?
Yes. Anyone over the age of 55 can apply to stay there and spend 28 hours a week doing missionary work during the winter months. However, the park wants Christian candidates with references. Additionally, anyone serving on the park’s board of directors or in certain leadership roles must commit in writing to abide by 15 comprehensive Articles of Faith.
How much do hookups and rentals cost?
Via Internet sources, approximately $250 per month for six months.
What are Bibleville’s specific missions?
Its missions are assistance, mutual aid and charity. These may include cleaning, sewing, cooking, housekeeping and practical work, such as mowing, tree pruning, plumbing, electrical and several types of repairs, as well as the collection of food and goods to donate to needy areas.
Are these Winter Texans participating in Latin American ministries?
Probably not, or rarely. Retired and senior Winter Texans typically don’t have the time or energy for four years of college or an intense language course that requires taking an aptitude test. However, they may serve locally or in poor areas along the border and elsewhere, as mentioned above.
Can Winter Texans take the one-year Spanish course on their own?
Not really. This course requires mission commitments assigned to the quorum itself. No one can take this course to learn the language only.
Is there something about this park that attracts people who don’t know it?
Yes. Bibleville’s holds at least five free Bible conferences in its auditorium each year between January and early March. These weekly lectures are taught by well-known PhD students and ministers from various parts of the continent. Participants also come from all over to these evening lectures. The only cost for out of town visitors is board and room. Winter Volunteers living in the park can participate in as many as they wish.
This park also hosts at least nine Saturday night gospel or religious concerts open to the public during this time. These concerts are talented traveling musical or theatrical groups. Cost: Free Will Offering.
Conclusion.
Bibleville is definitely Bible oriented. Even its streets have biblical names. Moreover, it offers a useful purpose for “snowbirds” who want more from their winter life in the valley than entertainment and relaxation in warm weather, even if they can do so in their spare time. God uses everyone.
